Plant Care Basics
Four main pillars for healthy and thriving plants
Watering
Don't overdo it! Check soil moisture 2-3 cm from the surface.
Lighting
Know your plant's light needs - bright, indirect, or low.
Temperature & Humidity
Most plants like 18-24°C with 40-60% humidity.
Fertilizing
Fertilize every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring/summer).
When and How to Water
Proper watering is the key to healthy plants. Most beginners make the mistake of watering too often.
Check Soil Moisture
Stick your finger 2-3 cm into the soil. If dry, it's time to water.
Water Until Soaked
Water slowly until water comes out of the drainage holes.
Drain Excess Water
Don't let plants stand in water - this can cause root rot.
Use Room Temperature Water
Cold water can shock the roots. Let water sit overnight to remove chlorine.
Lighting Guide
Understand your plant's light needs
Bright Light
Direct sunlight or near a south-facing window.
Kaktus, Sukulen, Monstera, Fiddle Leaf Fig
Indirect Light
Bright but not direct, soft shadows.
Pothos, Philodendron, Peace Lily, Spider Plant
Low Light
Far from windows or rooms with little natural light.
Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, Cast Iron Plant, Pothos
Common Problems & Solutions
Recognize signs of unhealthy plants
🍂 Yellowing Leaves
Cause: Overwatering, nutrient deficiency, or insufficient light.
Solution: Check soil moisture, reduce watering frequency, move to a location with better light.
🥀 Wilting Leaves
Cause: Underwatering, root rot, or plant is too hot.
Solution: Water immediately if soil is dry, check roots for rot, move away from heat sources.
🐛 Pests (Aphids, Ants)
Cause: High humidity, plant stress, or came from another plant.
Solution: Wipe leaves with diluted dish soap, spray neem oil, isolate infected plants.
🌱 Slow Growth
Cause: Dormant season (normal), pot too small, or lack of nutrients.
Solution: Wait for spring, repot to a larger pot, give balanced NPK fertilizer.
Seasonal Care
Adjust care according to the season
Spring
- Best time to repot
- Start regular fertilizing
- Increase watering
- Prune dead parts
Summer
- Water more often
- Mist humidity
- Avoid harsh midday sun
- Watch for pests
Autumn
- Reduce fertilizing frequency
- Water less
- Move to brighter light
- Clean dead leaves
Winter
- Stop fertilizing
- Reduce watering
- Keep away from heaters
- Increase humidity
